Special Note: If you plan to attend the tour and want to vote, you will need to arrange for an absentee ballot because we will be in California on Election Day.

REGISTRATION:

  • As of 10/3/14 Council member have the ability to register up to two representatives per member company. This availablity is subject to change and is on a first come first serve basis.

DESCRIPTION:

The Council is sponsoring an Executive Tour to the Los Angeles area from November 3rd-5th, 2014. The focus of this trip is the “border” security in the LA area, to include port and maritime security, aviation security, and related law enforcement information sharing.

Planning is in progress and the program will include a combination of the following facility visits and tours, briefings, and discussions with various federal officials:

  • Tours, briefings, and discussions with the Coast Guard and CBP at the Ports of LA and Long Beach. Visit will likely include a tour of CBP’s port operations (including screening technology), a tour of a Coast Guard cutter and operational facilities, and a tour of the Maritime Coordination Center at the Long Beach Port. (Confirmed).
  • Tour, briefing, and discussion with CBP at LAX airport. (Confirmed). Visit will include a walking tour of Bradley Terminal, the departure and arrivals process, primary and secondary screening, and agricultural screening.
  • Briefing and discussion with Pat Gannon, the Chief of Airport Police, and Dominic Nessi, the Deputy Executive Director and CIO, of the LA World Airports. (Confirmed)
  • Tour, briefing, and discussion with TSA at LAX airport (Tentative).
  • Tour, briefing, and discussion to the LA Joint Regional Intelligence Center with local, state, and federal law enforcement and intelligence officials. (Confirmed)

Each attendee will receive a detailed Briefing Book approximately 1 week before the trip containing a finalized agenda, names and background information on the individuals with whom we will be meeting, the facilities and agencies we will be visiting, and all administrative/logistics information.

COST / REGISTRATION FEE:

$2,000 per attendee. This fee will cover the following expenses:

  • 2.5 Day Program and Administrative Costs
  • Hotel Accommodations for Three (3) Nights:
  • Two (2) nights lodging at the Westin Long Beach (333 E Ocean Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90802) Sunday, November 2nd and Monday, November 3rd.
  • One (1) night lodging at the Marriot LAX Airport on Tuesday, November 4th (5855 W Century Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90045)
  • All Local Transportation: We will have a coach bus reserved to take us to and from all of the briefings/programs on each of three days, as well as to the LAX airport on Wednesday, November 5th.
  • Meals:
  • Breakfast (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday)
  • Lunch (Monday & Tuesday)
  • Dinner (Monday & Tuesday)
  • Snacks and beverages provided on the bus throughout both days (the bus will be equipped with Wi-Fi)

Expenses Not Included in the Registration Fee:

The $2000 fee does NOT include:

** Roundtrip Airfare (to/from Los Angeles)

** Ground transportation from LAX airport to the Westin Long Beach on Sunday, November 3rd.

TRAVEL INFORMATION — ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE DETAILS:

Attendees will need to arrange their air travel so that they arrive in Long Beach, CA on Sunday, November 2nd. The tour will begin first thing in the morning on Monday, November 3rd and will conclude no later than 11:30am on Wednesday, November 5th. All attendees will be dropped off at LAX Airport no later than 11:30am.

Numerous airlines travel from the DC area to Los Angeles. Delta, American, and Alaskan airlines have nonstop service from DCA to LAX. There are other airlines that serve Washington Dulles (IAD) and the Baltimore Washington International (BWI) airports.

If you are interested in flying directly into Long Beach, Delta and Jet Blue are the cheapest options from DCA. If you fly into Long Beach, you need to make sure that fly out of LAX. The LAX airport is 21.9 miles from the Westin Long Beach and the Long Beach Airport is 10.8 miles from the Westin.

Please do NOT book a flight out of LAX before 12:30pm. If you need to fly home on an earlier flight, you will be responsible for your own transportation to the airport.

Cancellation Policy: The $2,000 fee is fully refundable if you cancel the trip before October 1st (minus any nominal charges the Council may incur). After this date, we cannot guarantee full refunds. The amount refunded will depend on how much of your fee has already been obligated under a contract (e.g. hotel room, bus deposit, food orders, credit card charge) and what we can recoup.
